Today is Cinco de Mayo. An "American" Holiday.

What is Cinco de Mayo? Many people tend to believe that it is the Mexican Independence Day, while others simply take it as another opportunity to celebrate. Mexican Independence Day was actually on September 16, 1810, when Mexico declared its independence from it's colonizer, Spain. Cinco de Mayo did not take place until 52 years later!

It commemorates the victory of 4,000 Mexican soldiers over twice as many French soldiers in the state of Puebla, Mexico, on May 5, 1862.

The Mexican army was able to defeat the French troops and claim a great victory that kept Napoleon III (French) from supplying the confederate rebels (U.S. Civil War) for another year.
