What day is it?

When life throws me into a rut, dole drums, pity party or hormonal imbalance... I create. I think of it as a ladder out. It's Saturday... but it feels like Sunday... and we went out window shopping. I wanted to stop by Jo-Ann's before we went home. OMG... the whole store was on sale. I decided to pick something to do, but it had to be cheap. I found a cute charm by Blue Moon Beads. It's part of their "Lost and Found" collection. It was on sale for $ 2.79. I then purchased an 18" chain for 99 cents. Came home and in 10 minutes I had a necklace. I did use little rings left over from my charm bracelet to attach everything together. It symbolizes my husband and I building a nest... one day I will add a small pearl bead to the nest... in a few years. Keep your eyes peeled.

A side note, when I was done I decided to look on Etsy under "bird/nest" and there it was. Slight variations of my necklace as well as exact duplicates. Same charm. The prices ranging from $29.99 to $13.00. Man, I'm in the wrong line of work.

Crafty Chica

Sunday night I was perusing through some of my favorite blogs and there is was... Crafty Chica now corporate.... like in Micheal's Craft stores corporate. I was excited. So of course I told my husband that Monday evening we are so there.... (at Micheal's). I wanted to support a sister on her new journey. I have been following her blog since I started blogging.
So here I go... I picked up some cool charms and decided to make a bracelet. My first. I used her charms as an inspiration piece.
(I also picked up an iron on)

. six hours later (over two days) I have my bracelet. I still need to add some chunkier beads... but over all I am happy with my first try at charm bracelets.

A little road map to my bracelet.

I <3 Alexander Henry Fabric

I picked up this gorgeous fabric at Jo-Ann's. I have been on the hunt for Alexander Henry Fabric for a while. I know I have to go out to LA to find it, but for convenience... I needed to hunt locally. I do not know how to sew and asked my mother to guide me through the process... that's how it started, it ended with my aunt (who is a master at the sewing machine) ended up with the fabric and made me my apron. I love it!!!

Project Runway re runs = inspiration

I started a painting the bird house my parents gave me. I painted stems and am going to put bottle caps on them as the flowers. It's a birdhouse with a twist.
I will continue to update these project pictures.
I received a Micheal's gift card from my parents for my birthday and purchased these wood crosses. I needed glitter glue for the caps and ink for the printer, so we went to Target. The parking lot was filled with seagulls that went airborne when a car drove past them.
Of course we had to pop into Biglots. We split up and went looking for those "deals". I remembered I needed a clear vinyl curtain to replace our old one and as I was digging through the piles I found this curtain for $4.00. So of course I purchased the Loteria curtain as well as the clear vinyl. When we got home I looked up the brand to see if there were any accessories that went with it. I guess they used to carry the product at Wal-mart between 2004-2006. Curtain rings, waste basket and bathroom containers.

I sit here, with my window open listening to La Sonora PonceƱa and Pio Levia on Pandora while sipping on coffee sweetened with Azucar brand sugar. It just rained. The ground is moist the clouds are real, not packs of smoke filled pillows masquerading around as clouds. It only rained for half an hour, but that was the best half hour. Everything seems to have been showered down. I was kidding around with my mom and said that our cars have been washed clean... with acid rain. My husband and I did some yard work in the back and I finished my bottle cap shelf. I'm about to make some more Pan Muerto and Sugar Skulls for a Skull Decorating party. It's our second annual. I have enjoyed this weekend. On Wednesday our company informed us that we were going to close down for two days due the the fires. Many our our "heads" live near the burn area and were going to be out anyways. In addition the air quality was horrendous. I went out to lunch with my mom on Thursday. She teaches first grade and had the day off due to schools closing down. I filled my time with with crafts, spending time with my husband and with prepping for Dia de los Muertos.

The skies were like this all week. Today was the first day it looked "normal", however the smell of the first rain mixed with ash and burn are not the most pleasant.
I was given this self by my grandmother. She said to take it, paint it and then bring her over to see it. She is totally into trash to treasure.

I repainted it with paint left over from summer when I painted the ceiling and one wall in the living room. It's a faint blue.

We have been collecting bottle caps for the past year. I purchased some resin and printed out my favorite prints from the Internet. I mixed, poured and sealed the caps. Some came out better then others. I think next time I will print out on photo paper so that the background will stay rather then wash out. Here is the final product.
With salt and pepper shakers.

I made royal icing for the skulls. A practice run before the party. In addition I was able to do the skulls for my alter before the party.

My husband's abstract skulls

Great Grandma, Grandpa, Tio, Step Grandpa and Esparanza.

It's almost done. All I need to do is add the photos, coffee and food.

Oh and we need to bless it with White sage.

Thanksgiving Gifts for Phoenix

We grew these gourds a few years back. I made a bunch of these little women for my family. My Tia and Tio from Arizona saw them and wanted one. It's been over two years and I finally made them one. The picture does not do her justice. The flash washed out the details. I made this one this morning... I did not like the original one I made. I had to start fresh. My husband just smiled and went for a jog... Crazy lady with paint brushes... run!

The bags for freshly made calabaza (which I have to finish coating in sugar in next half hour) and the other is for the gourd.
